As a founding member of the Barcelona Innovation Valley Alliance (BIVA), Banco Sabadell participated in the “Responsible & Secure AI” roundtable at the Talent Arena, contributing its vision to the debate on the challenges and best practices necessary for the responsible and secure development of artificial intelligence.
The Strategic Role of Artificial Intelligence
During the session, the strategic role that AI is acquiring in new projects as a source of competitive advantage was emphasized, as well as the importance of protecting these emerging ecosystems. Eduardo Gonzalez, Chief Information Security Officer at Banco Sabadell, highlighted data privacy and the increase in sophisticated cyberattacks as the main concerns of the banking sector in this new stage marked by AI systems and agents.
“Traditional technical controls are no longer sufficient: a new discipline has emerged aimed at testing and validating AI systems, from prompt evaluation to advanced practices like AI Red Teaming.” In the Information Security department of Banco Sabadell, we assess new risks to adapt and build the necessary safeguards.” Eduardo González, director de seguretat de la informació de Banco Sabadell.

Regarding the implementation of these new systems, the recent European regulation on artificial intelligence clearly defines the use cases subject to reinforced technical requirements. Among them, AI systems “intended to assess the solvency and credit risk of individuals or to establish their credit score” are considered high risk. These systems require stricter controls than the rest, including, for example, mechanisms for human oversight in decision-making.
The involvement of young people in a new digital context
Finally, the debate addressed the preparation of young people in this new digital context and the training necessary to compete in the coming years. Eduardo González highlighted the relevance of acquiring a technical foundation increasingly aligned with data science, along with the development of critical thinking as essential competencies for this new era of AI.
