Promoting young talent, encouraging shared learning and supporting students’ professional development are some of the objectives of the University Mentoring and Talent Management Programme, developed through the collaboration between the Banco Sabadell Foundation, the University of Alicante (UA), Miguel Hernández University (UMH) and the Alicante Technology Competence Centre (CCTA).

After several months of joint work, the programme held its closing session, bringing together 23 mentors and mentees (supervised students) for a day focused on exchanging experiences, presenting projects and reflecting on mutual growth within the digital and technological environment.

Key areas of work and technological innovation

Throughout this fifth edition, research and development projects were structured around four of the most in-demand areas in today’s digital sector:

  • Accessibility and digital inclusion: Aimed at directly reducing the digital divide across different groups.
  • Customer experience (UX): Focused on simplifying complex processes and improving usability in digital environments.
  • Automation and artificial intelligence: Exploring the use of AI in business to optimise processes and enable advanced information analysis.
  • Digital security and trust: With particular attention to cybersecurity, fraud prevention and proactive user protection.

A two-way learning environment between university and business

Beyond the technical projects, the programme has strengthened its value as a two-way learning environment, where the exchange between working professionals and final-year students creates new perspectives on the skills most sought after in today’s labour market.

The experience highlighted the importance of having structured mentoring spaces that encourage mental disconnection, reflection and knowledge transfer between the academic and professional worlds.

“The exchange has been enriching for both parties and has highlighted the importance of having spaces to pause and reflect. In an increasingly demanding professional environment, allowing time for this helps people gain perspective and is extremely valuable both personally and professionally.” — Laura Oliveros Campos, Deputy Director of Financing Processes.

Sharing experience to foster the talent of the future

The programme concludes this edition having established itself as a benchmark initiative in the promotion of university talent. Both mentors and students highlighted the value of the experience and the usefulness of the support received throughout the process.

Thank you to everyone who took part in this edition, whose involvement, dedication and commitment were essential to the programme’s success. Mentoring and volunteering initiatives such as this reflect one of the defining characteristics of our teams: people committed to sharing knowledge, supporting the growth of others and creating a positive impact beyond their day-to-day work.
